The Approach
Enter between the lighthouses on the headlands of West Chop and East Chop. The harbor mouth is more than a mile wide at its outermost extremity, narrowing gradually upon approaching the inner harbor breakwater and the ferry wharf at harbor's head. Buoyage on entry is gauged to deep draft vessels: however due respect must be paid to the rocky ledges along the eastern shore of West Chop, beginning at Allegheny Rock (marked by Can "25") and west of Nun "4".
