The Approach

Enter between the lighthouses on the headlands of West Chop and East Chop. The harbor mouth is more than a mile wide at its outermost extremity, narrowing gradually upon approaching the inner harbor breakwater and the ferry wharf at harbor's head. Buoyage on entry is gauged to deep draft vessels: however due respect must be paid to the rocky ledges along the eastern shore of West Chop, beginning at Allegheny Rock (marked by Can "25") and west of Nun "4".

By Plane

There is year-round scheduled service to the Martha's Vineyard Airport from Boston, Hyannis, Nantucket, New Bedford, and Providence. Charter services also are available, and the airport has facilities for private planes. M.V. Airport is located in the center of the Island. Taxis and cars can be hired at the terminal.
